Now is the time to be selfish
It’s time to wake up.
It’s time to realize that what you are focusing on, you are becoming.
Not only are you becoming what you are focusing on, but your immediate world around you is also becoming what you are focusing on.
Fear. Anger. Hatred. Sadness. Resentment. Frustration. Confusion.
It’s time to accept that the world has been fighting since time immemorial and you are not going to ever be able to stop it by giving it attention.
You are shouting at a brick wall. You are allowing people to hurt you. People hundreds and thousands of miles away from you are draining your very precious energy. People you have stuck with because it's just what you've always done are draining the little you have left. It's what you're used to. It seems normal.
It doesn't have to be "your" normal anymore. You once had a wellspring of beautiful radiant energy that sustained you and you freely shared of it.
But you see now that it's almost completely dried up. You've given too much of yourself to those people and situations that did not and do not deserve it.
It’s time to realize that you have been an accomplice to your current situations and emotions.
It’s ok to understand all of this. It’s ok to feel a little defeated, angry, and lost.
It’s ok to be human.
But don’t waste another moment on the what ifs. The why me, the why did they, the how dare they.
Throughout your whole life, you have been programmed by your family, by religion, by television, by radio, by society, by friends, and by social media.
It’s time to reset yourself. It’s time to be selfish.
Completely and utterly selfish.
Get rid of the word “should” and just be. Forget what others told you how you should act, to feel, how to live, how to be.
Take your power back from the darkness that is siphoning it through social media, through the news, and even through people you might call friends and family.
Hell, even through traffic.
Let it all go. Release and breathe through it.
Take back your power from the past that does not define who you are.
Search and find the strength that you now have as a result of those difficult times.
You made it. You endured. You survived. You overcame.
You know deep down that there is an almost hidden world all around you. A world where people smile and help and care about each other. There’s a world that feels amazing and fills you with joy everywhere you look.
You have to shift your focus.
You cannot give from your well if it is dry. Especially not to yourself. You will have to fill it. Fill it with things that light you up.
Start small.
Pay attention to your food and drink. Close your eyes and enjoy it. Feel the first rays of the morning sunlight on your face and take it in. The sun rises every day to light up the darkness. Let it heal you and remind you of your own inner light.
Take some extra time to watch the wind blowing through the trees and the way the sun shines so beautifully on each leaf.
Put on a song and feel it. Move to it if that’s what your body wants.
Color, draw, play an instrument, go for a run or walk, knit, sculpt something, write anything. Do something creative that you’ve always enjoyed. Let whatever you do be effortless. Allow yourself to enjoy.
Smile at someone with loving intention. I bet you they’ll smile back.
Speak kindly to yourself, like you are speaking to your childhood self. Say encouraging things and heal. Get excited right now about what can be.
All that matters is this moment.
This is how you fill your well back up. By slowing down. By releasing resistance. By freeing yourself from the cage you’ve put yourself in.
This is also how you really change the world.
When we focus on our own wellbeing and give ourselves permission to be authentic and happy, an invisible light reaches out from inside of us and shines on everything and everyone.
And the light is contagious.
Now is the time to step into that wonderful world you’ve forgotten about.
Now is the time to be selfish.
